Family conflicts are a part of life. However, chronic family issues can cause considerable distress for anyone and can have a significant impact on mental and physical health. Some family issues may be caused by (but not limited to):

  • Differing parenting styles
  • Child/parent conflict
  • Family violence
  • Family court involvement
  • Family separation/divorce
  • Financial problems
  • Stress
  • Managing difficult child behaviour

Family issues may lead to :

  • Experiencing negative emotions (i.e. sadness, anxiety)
  • Increasing levels of stress
  • Difficulties concentrating at work
  • Problems with sleeping or eating
  • Feeling isolated, alone or withdrawn
  • Problems with other personal relationships such as colleagues at work

Family counselling together or individually can provide external help for families seeking to work together to solve some of the relationship issues they are experiencing. Family counselling can help individual family members better understand one another and provide them with the skills to cope with challenging situations in a more effective way.
